Vaughan Metropolitan Centre

The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, an urban hub within the city of Vaughan, is emerging as the cities new downtown. Over three decades since first incorporated, this once rural community has outgrown its nickname as merely ‘the city above Toronto”, as it continues to grow in more ways than one. To connect the five municipalities within Vaughan to the city and its surrounding areas, the province committed to expanding the Spadina subway line to Vaughan and designated it as an Urban Growth Centre.

Since opening in 2017, the addition of the subway line has accelerated the growth of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre. It has since brought the vision of building a transit-oriented downtown that comprises residential, office and mixed-use space, connected by various urban and green areas to life. Renowned organizations like KPMG, PWC, YMCA and SmartCentres call VMC home, with significant residential developments currently and soon to be gracing the streets.

As the VMC continues to expand, the city has faced a series of challenges regarding parking. With significant congestion from the VMC subway station, and only two temporary paid parking lots on-site, it has been difficult for residents, visitors, commuters and business owners to navigate smoothly and find available parking. As an innovative, urban-mobility-focused parking solutions provider, Vaughan Metropolitan Centre relied on Precise ParkLink to implement a parking solution that favoured the city and its visitors.

In October 2021, Precise ParkLink successfully deployed an on-street parking program that allows VMC and the city of Vaughan to increase the amount of parking available for passenger pick-up and drop-off, reduce traffic congestion in and around the area, and facilitate safe driver and pedestrian journeys. Paid parking is now enforced through pay-by-license-plate meter technology, fully integrated with Parkedin™, Precise ParkLink’s mobile payment platform that allows users to scan, pay and proceed to their destination safely, quickly and easily.

Andrew Sgorlon, dedicated account executive for the VMC, stated, “The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre is a rapidly growing urban hub with no signs of slowing down. In recent years, the VMC has faced a series of challenges with its existing parking infrastructure. Providing a fully customized parking program has allowed them to maximize parking for their residents, visitors, and businesses while reducing commuter congestion. A unique combination of technology and mobile payment software will ensure that their parking endeavours are supported every step of the way”.

Precise ParkLink is committed to supporting Vaughan Metropolitan Centre’s rapid growth through a scan-and-go parking program that prioritizes convenience. We look forward to continuing to meet and exceed the needs of residents, businesses and visitors alike for many years to come.
